Occupying a commanding position on the junction of Southgate Road with Northchurch Road this Victorian pub does have pavement appeal as you approach, or it does on a fine weather evening when the outside tables behind the railings on both pavement sides of the pub are packed out with punters enjoying an alfresco pint in the sunshine. Internally it is a single island bar pub opened out into one large bar with typical bare boards floor and open kitchen to the rear. So, I agree not too many points of interest internally and frankly its all a bit bland and Islington bare Gastro, but at least it benefits from no screens and no music or gaming machines. That’s primarily because most of its clientele come here for the posh nosh on offer, although this is another one in the area that I spotted offers a reasonable lunch menu for only £9 for a main.
On the ale front there are three hand pumps on the bar with two in operation for my visit with a very passable Bath Ales Gem on one and a handwritten pump clip proclaiming Otter Bitter on the other. Not sure I would bother with this one on a wet and windy day (if we ever get one of those again),but certainly one to have in the memory bank when next in the area when the sun is out.

The De Beauvoir Arms is a smart looking corner pub that is about halfway down Southgate road.
Once inside there is a fairly large single room with the bar facing on entry, the floor is bare boarded, the seating is normal tables and chairs, there is an open kitchen to the rear left.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Black Sheep bitter which went down well, the other beer was St Austell Tribute.
The pub was packed on my mid Saturday afternoon visit with both drinkers and diners.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in,i stayed here longer than normal as the heavens had opened and i did not want to get too wet on my short walk to the Scolt Head.

Imposing corner pub, with an opened-out interior leaving a staple-shaped bar behind the main seating area, a further small space (with piano) to one side and a much larger dining / kitchen area on the other. Plainly furnished and decorated, with a high ceilings, all leaving quite an austere impression. Patio benches to front and side. Four of five handpumps operational, dispensing Marston's EPA, Portobello Star (£4.00), Broadside and Rosie's Pig cider.
