Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cartoonist

Housed under the London International Press Centre building, with some patio seating giving the first hint of a pub as you approach. Light wood solid furniture, pinkish paint and cartoons on walls. Cellar Bar with pool. Just Harveys (£4.00) from the three handpumps. Overall, all a bit run down.

Old Blue left this review about The Cartoonist

Slightly unusual one, this, which proclaims itself to be 'Your Local in the City'. The windows in the double doors at each end are the only sources of natural light, making the pink interior look darker and dimmer than it otherwise would. Appropriately the walls are adorned with lots of framed old cartoons. The three handpumps offered Harvey's Sussex (£3.60 for a cracking pint), Pedigree and, unusually for the area, Banks's Bitter.

The atmosphere felt more relaxed, friendly and unpretentious than anywhere else I've been in the area, and I rather liked it. The bar staff were warm and friendly, and whilst one of them was very clued up, some amusement came from the other one on her second day in the job serving quite a lot of wrong drinks. Whilst I was there, one person who ordered half a Pedigree got a pint of Harvey's, and another got half a cider instead of a pint, but it was all taken in good humour and corrected with a smile.

Food menu is fairly standard pub grub. I ordered a burger and chips, and got a burger and chips (no salad, frills, or anything else they didn't say they were offering). Also noticed that unusually the evening menu served 5.30-8.30 is cheaper than the lunch menu (4.50 instead of 5.90 for said burger), perhaps reflecting more of an evening 'local' feel than the lunchtime I came here. There is also a cellar bar with pool table and jukebox, which is bookable for events and quite popular from what I could tell on glimpsing the diary when someone made a booking whilst I was there.

I will certainly be back here to see what it's like in the evenings.

Above review was on 9th July 2011. A recent visit found only Pedigree on hand pump and at a whopping £3.90, with the other two pumps bearing reversed Harveys clips
