Nice old facade and traditional style interior (ties and carpets mentioned below are no more). 4 real ales and food served.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Ship

Compact pub behind a fancy narrow façade with extra seating upstairs on the Upper Deck (not visited). Limited seating with some high tables in the bar area and traditional furniture and decor. Four real ales on handpump: Tribute plus three Rugby World Cup seasonals - Black Sheep Blind Side, Wells Try Time and Brain's Number 8 (£3.95).

Situated close to Fenchurch Street station, this is a compact little pub offering something a bit more traditional compared to all the flash modern bars that seem to blight this part of town. The carpeted, single room interior has a pleasing red, white and black colour scheme and a limited amount of seating with four or five tables and a couple of drinking shelves, although to be fair, there were signs pointing out an upstairs seating area, which I didn't get round to exploring. Decor is fairly limited, with a few photo collages here and there and the nautically themed picture, although there is a rather surprising collection of ties hanging from a couple of the dark wood beams near the bar counter, seemingly collected as part of some sort of charity fundraiser. The room was also decorated with some pirate bunting for no apparent reason other than perhaps the vague link to the pub's name. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the descent to the toilets via a frighteningly steep spiral staircase is something of a challenge at the best of times.
The four beers available on my visit were Deuchars IPA, Sharp's Doom Bar, Caledonian Trick or Treat and Theakston Lightfoot (£3.50). I tried the latter which was in pretty decent shape and served by a friendly enough barmaid. A blackboard opposite the bar lists some classic pub grub options for anyone wanting a bite to eat.
This is a nice little pub with enough going for it to make it worth a return visit and I can't think of too many better pubs in this part of town.
