This pub dates from the late 18th century, was rebuilt at the start of the 19th, then again at the end of the 19th.
The interior features a bare boarded bar apron, thereafter tartan carpet. The walls are modern, artificially aged wood panelled with mirror infill to almost full height, where it meets white Anaglypta which matches the ceiling with its flush aircon units. Overly bright lighting comes in the form of inverted white opaque tulip sconces and a TV was spotted, musical entertainment coming in the form of barely audible tinny music. Furniture is conventional with the tall stuff to the left, conventional height items to the right; much of the drinking space is made over to tall stools with drinking ledges, as the interior is really quite small, with décor in the form of black and white framed prints of the area from yesteryear. Customers amounted to a few German tourists, then a large bunch of blokey geezer types, all sporting baggy shorts, their ringleader – who by comparison made Lee Nelson seem like Jacob Rees-Mogg – wearing a baseball cap, Hawaiian shirt, Bermuda shorts and giving it large.
A Shep’s house with a predictable but basic line-up: two unused pumps then Whitstable Bay and Spitfire at £5.45 a pint and drinkable, served by a slightly confused barmaid.
This pub is serviceably functional but that’s about it; there are much better pubs in the City and the fact that last orders was called at just 10.20 on a Friday is a bit limp, further detracting from the pub’s limited appeal.

This is a really small Shepherd Neame tied house in a narrow lane with an interior which will fill up quickly at popular times. It felt functional rather than charming with a bar to the front right,a few tables and chairs further back before the loos.Punters spill outside, while the barstaff were very efficient on my visit and served quickly.
There were 4 handpumps with one clip reversed leaving SN Spitfire,MasterBrew and Whitstable Bay Pale Ale (decent). There are less points of interest here than many closeby pubs although there's nothing particularly wrong with the place.

Shepherd Neame pub that's tucked away on a narrow side street. Quite a plain interior with wood panels and mirrors. 4 real ales and food served.
