I have been boycotting Wetherspoons pubs for more than four years now (see my review of The Knights Templar WC2 for details), so I was pleased when I learned that this fabulous building was no longer a Spoons, having been bought and somewhat altered by McMullens. I used the word 'opulent' in my notes written at the time of my visit, and I think that's about right. The insertion of a mezzanine floor my be a little intrusive, but this is only in the back part of the pub, the front area being magnificent. The bar features three hand pumps, with AK, Country and IPA available. I went for the mild, which was in good condition. I would be happy to call in again if in the area.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Horse & Guardsman
The former Lord Moon of the Mall has been remodelled by McMullen's, with the bar moved to the front and a mezzanine added. It has also been comprehensively refurbished in an upmarket style (especially in the dining areas at the back and up the stairs). However, the real ale selection is now more limited, with just AK, Country and IPA (£5.30) available from three of the four handpumps, together with Rivertown Scarlet as a 'guest' (£5.60). Quite a few standard and craft keg beers also available (including several others from Rivertown). Just a short distance from Trafalgar Square and only five minutes walk from Charing Cross station if waiting for a train, but there has been a huge lurch upwards in terms of price.
