Largish roadside pub just outside Wooburn green. Advertises itself as a pub restaurant and for many years the restaurant section was a Thai restaurant. At the beginning of this year they changed to offering more traditional British pub fare, presumable because of a real Thai restaurant opening in what I believe used to be The Red Lion on the nearby Cores End Road round the corner.
Due to most of the frontage of this pub being on the road side you enter from a back door by the side car park into the main bar area. This is a fairly plain but comfortable space having crème walls and ceilings, a few exposed old oak beams, a light wood floor and a collection of different type tables mainly with wicker seating. Definitely a place for chat and conversation as there is no TV screens or games machines to get in the way.
The dining room is then further on, accessed through an archway away from the bar area.
There are three handpumps on the bar, two of which usually dispense either TT Landlord, Fullers London Pride or Youngs Bitter, and then the third is a rotating guest, which was Vale Pale Ale from the local Bucks Vale Microbrewery on my visit this week and this was an excellent pint.
I’ve only ever had a pint and grabbed a lunchtime sandwich, but the main restaurant food menu looks varied with a decent choice and they have Pie nights on Wednesdays and Fish and Chip nights on Fridays when all mains are £6 and £8 respectively.
There is a secluded smallish patio garden area out back with about half a dozen bench seats for when the weather is warm enough of an outside pint.
Always found the service friendly and the beer in good nick on the few times I’ve been in.
