A pleasant bar in a modern-ish (ie not very) development just off the Euston Road. Amazing how tranquil it can be just a few yards from the traffic. There is one L-shaped room with tasteful furnishings, and some seating outside in the square. It should have had Doom Bar and TT Landlord on handpump, but they were both off on this visit which was a bit disappointing. I am sure I recollect a wider beer range in the past - I might have just been unlucky but they need to get their act together.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Square Tavern

Hidden away in a small square (but don't expect the typical London area of leafy greenery, more the sort of scruffy courtyard to be found in a technical college that has somehow become the University of Somewhere-you-have-never-heard-of). The pub interior was probably thought to be modern by the architect, but the ceiling used to seem to be too low and was thus used to be quite gloomy inside with dark decor and semi-traditional furniture (but things have improved substantially following a refurbishment). Also has a few wooden benches outside. Italian food menu. Now a Ram Pub Co house, Ordinary is still a regular from the two banks of three handpumps, with Twickenham's Naked Ladies also usually available (plus some other mainstream beers sometimes offered). Overall, a bit dull, but not a bad option if things are a bit frantic elsewhere. NB - Open Monday to Friday only.

The signage proclaims this to be a Young's pub, but the only Young's ale on was their Bitter, but also on were Doom Bar, St Austell Tribute, and Twickenham Naked ladies (£1.90 a half). Clipboard menus are on the tables, with pizze at £10.50 a pop, and other stuff is not overly expensive for the area - the standard burger with blue cheese, onions, bacon and fries is £9.50.

This is a modern, new build (80s I think) blockhouse style pub (well named as the Square Tavern) in a new build residential development. Inside, the servery takes up most of the pub space; it's nicely carpeted, has a couple of tall tables/tall stools, but is mainly furnished with normal tables and chairs. The dartboard is still there, and has apparently suffered considerable use over the years. When I was in there was a mix of apparent regular locals and office workers in there.

40 to 50 years ago I would have thought a pub like this to be the bee's knees, and maybe in 50 - 100 years time if it's still standing my successors will be enthusing about the heritage value of an unspoilt 1980s pub, but just at the moment it's not really my favourite style of pub. But having said that, it's definitely still a real pub.
