Yet another London CAMRA listed Heritage Pub in Maida Vale, albeit a shadow of its former glorious Victorian self. But some interesting features do remain including some full- height tiling bearing unusual motifs of pairs of birds and pomegranates and some rather excellent huge built-in mirrors in the larger room. Otherwise the pub has been opened up and modernised in recent years and is now owned and run by the Faucet Inn chain, the same company that owns the nearby Warrington. And although I cannot judge for sure as this was my first visit, I would guess the pub has undergone a makeover and a visit from the usual Farrow & Ball Ikea inspired interior design teams since the last reviews and the Chippenham now functions as a Gastro pub-cum-hotel (or B&B in reality).
There are four ale pumps on the bar top and three were operational for my visit with two Marston brews in the shape of Marston’s SMASH and Wychwood Pile Driver and then the ubiquitous Doombar available.
Still worth a visit for the interior although like the other Heritage pubs in the area, a more exciting ale choice would improve this place.

Notwithstanding what I said after visiting this pub back in 2008, I paid another visit yesterday. The pomegranite themed Victorian tiling is as impressive as ever, and the pub deserves a visit for that alone. But now real ale has been reintroduced, making it a far superior pub than hitherto. Of the four or five handpumps, only two were seeing active service yesterday, but the pint of Doom Bar I had was so good that I suspected that the pump might have been mis-clipped. I failed to make a note of the other ale, but it can't have been anything very exciting or I would have gone for it in preference to the Doom Bar. There was a basic one-sheet menu, with lamb stew and bread for £5.50 and sandwiches for £3.50.

This one has gone up in my estimation, and may the trend continue.

This is a pretty tatty pub, with no real ale on. They did have chilled keg GKIPA on – I decided not to try it. There's some superb original Victorian tiling still in place, but that's the only reason to venture in here. I can't see me visiting again.
