Just when you thought that there was no such thing as a decent pub in Bayswater, along comes this, a CAMRA Regionally Important Historic Interior specimen now shorn of it's Whitbread deer's head sign logo.
The name in etched glass to the entrance and into a pub with a modern boarded floor with some carpeting, fantastic etched and cut glass mirrored bar back with a lovely gilded carved cornice. A side snug features an ornate fireplace with scrolling and gas flame fire. Furniture is traditional and pubby with lighting coming mainly from Victorian-style hanging glass teardrop lanterns. There's another sort of lantern with stained glass in the rear room, which was probably once over a billiards table. Muted music played and there was a good vibe in here with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists; the pub is clearly very gay friendly, judging by the party at the table next to me.
Ales: the usual Young's suspects with Proper Job as guest and no-brainer. It did have a slightly odd taste, as if the barmaid had spaffed a slug of lemonade into it, drinkable but not exceptional.
This is a good solid Victorian boozer and I'd have no problem making a beeline for it if in W2, not that the Mitre has anything in the way of competition in this part of the world.

Old Boots left this review about The Mitre

A classic Victorian corner pub but with a mercilessly modernised inside front bar, although a nice counter and period style wallpaper tone it down and the barback is a real classic. Badged as a Youngs house it serves Youngs ordinary and a beer from Hackney plus a cider on the five pulls. There are also twelve keg taps with Camden, Meantime and some National brands. At the back the rooms are in a Victorian style but I didn't explore them. The pretentious use of a Victorian country house servants bell board loses it points. The beer is very well looked after it's just some of the choices seem driven by trendiness not quality. Some of the staff were exemplary.

A characterful Youngs boozer with a relatively unspoilt interconnected multi-room interior. Burgundy red colouring, curtains on the windows, etched and cut glasswork, mosaic flooring and tiling on the entrances and an all-round homely feel. Five pumps dispensing four ales; Youngs Bitter and Special, Twickenham Naked Ladies and one from Hop Stuff which was in good form, although I paid through the nose for it. Also noted Aspell Temple Moon cider. Worth a visit or two, I enjoyed it here and it’s far enough away from (but close enough to) Paddington and the Bayswater Road to decamp here if you want to get a later train out home. 7.5
