One room with the bar to the left. Four hand pumps, one reversed, rest weal real ale. Not the best place.

A first in here the other night, a wild card as part of a Marylebone mini-crawl and penultimate stop for the evening. This place was established in 1771 but rebuilt in 1928 as a Portland-faced mixed-use structure with either offices or flats above.
I’m with other contributors on this one in that it really isn’t much joy and the descriptions match our experience, so I can add little. The bar features a semi industrial gantry and as a complement, some of the lighting comes curtesy of bulkhead lamps. A TV was switched on, showing the news with the sound off. Music played and was a little too loud. What really made this pub stand out though was the gent’s cubicle which was out of order and taped shut. You take customers’ money but don’t give them adequate facilities? Can't be bothered to employ the services of a 24-hour plumber in advance of opening for business?
Ales: Sharp’s Doom Bar and Atlantic, Fuller’s London Pride and the no-brainer of the four, Purity’s Mad Goose, decent but price forgotten.
This seems to be a mediocre pub at the best of times, and clearly this wasn’t the best of times, so no chance of a return visit to what is run – appropriately – by the Only Pub Company. Sadly, this isn’t true as they run a sister pub, The Britannia, in SE1.

Staple shaped pub with three quarter length light wood panelling, leaded translucent windows and a nice padded banquette area to the far right of the interior. Four ales on (with funny gauges on the handles); Sharps Atlantic, Purity Gold, Pride and Doom Bar. The Purity Gold was London Murky so that went back, and I had to stand my ground with a dismissive and faintly contemptuous barmaid (who I suspect has never drunk an ale in her short, dyed-blonde life). The eventual replacement of Sharps Atlantic was much better. There’s a good pub trying to get out here, but at present it gets filed under ‘should do better’. 5.5
