A good town pub but the previous strong focus on guest ales appears to be under threat following the refurbishment and staff changes. Hopefully it will turn around, but it certainly needs to restore some character lost during the 'improvements'.

The Green Man is a solid, stone built coaching inn inside which is essentially a one roomed pub wrapping around a central bar.
It feels like a proper boozer and although there are traditional features such as a real fire and old beams and supports, these are teamed with pine tables and a juke box so not too much is made of the building's history.
I visited on an early Thursday evening and it was reasonably busy with, predominantly, fellows who had just finished work and were intent on slaking their thirsts on a warm day. One local did mention that many of these often stayed on well into the evening generally making for a lively atmosphere but things were all good natured and friendly on my visit.
One of the attractions for the after work crowd is the offer of a free bowl of 'cowboy stew' for anyone who ordered two pints between 5 and 7 and many were taking advantage of this. There's also a pleasant courtyard at the back which was getting plenty of use on a warm evening.
Eight beers were on and the offer of a 'taster' was made immediately by the friendly barmaid. Available on my visit were: Tydd Steam Dr Fox's Cunning Linctus, Hopshackle Humopulus and Resination, Slaters Top Totty, London Pride, Dr Mortons Pocket Anchovies. Castle Rock Harvest Pale and Doom Bar. A fair selection there with some local breweries represented amongst the odd regional and national and strengths from 3.8% up to 7%. I tried the Humopulus and the Pocket Anchovies both of which were in good nick and excellent.
I liked this pub a lot and for the selection of beers alone this would be my first port of call, and likely last, if in Stamford.

First pub was the Green Man on Scotgate. This is an old coaching inn and usually has 7 ales available, but this weekend around 40 ales were available for their Easter beer festival. We settled near the exit to the beer garden so we were handy for beers outside as well as those on the bar. The food available was simple but well cooked meals and a variety of sandwiches. Sausage egg and chips, and steak and ale on chips went down very well for £4 each. The bar curves round so there is a front bar area and a rear area, plus the garden. We enjoyed 8 well kept beers in good company, but had to move on.
