After periods of closure, one of which saw it reimagined as an Indian restaurant, the Adam & Eve is now a pub again, with the previous whitewashed rendering removed and a beer garden created in front, which have each given the building a bit of the individuality that it was missing previously. The gate leading into the garden has an interesting metal plate with a depiction of an apple with an enclosed ae digraph. Once inside this is a fairly ordinary dining pub, though I did not feel unwelcome as a thirsty cyclist. The three hand pumps on the long, fancy modern bar had Marstons Pedigree, Ossett White Rat and Timothy Taylor Boltmaker. I had a half of the latter and took a seat at the long table in front of the bar. The dining action was taking place in the left hand side of the building, with what looked like a fake chimney breast separating the two rooms (although it coincides with the chimney stack on the roof, the fireplace looked too flimsy to have any structural value). The beer was very good (NBSS 3.5) and despite the obvious emphasis on food, this is one to bear in mind for a future visit.

This former Indian restaurant has been fully refurbished and has become a pub/restaurant/hotel, which is particularly ironic considering the nearby Turnor Arms has turned from a pub into an Indian restaurant.

We decided to stay here as it was the only place in this small market town which was answering emails. £95 for bed & breakfast seemed a bit on the pricy side, but saved us having to sleep in the car! Imagine our surprise when we arrived for the bill to have been increased to £105 to include a child's breakfast, when we had specifically asked for a room for 3.

Whilst this left a particularly sour taste in the mouth, I was rather impressed by the pub/restaurant itself. It was busy when we first checked in, primarily with diners and I was impressed to note a couple of real ales on at the bar - Boltmaker & White Rat. I later returned to sample the Boltmaker and found it on good form.

The interior has been decorated to an excellent standard, with a dining area and open kitchen set off to the side of the bar. Rooms have a separate entrance from the pub's astroturf outdoor drinking space and are located above the pub/restaurant.

Whilst the pub can't match the nearby Ivy for atmosphere or real ale selection, it is a decent addition to the town. Although the penny pinching on room prices was not appreciated.
