We arrived here as the sun was beginning to set and the dark clouds belonging to Storm Dudley were about to unleash a huge amount of rain. Parking is over the road and shared with a barbers and what looked like a tearoom.

From the outside, the pub looks quite appealing. We only checked out the room to the left as you enter and found it to be very basic. A daytime quiz show was showing on the TV, whilst music was also playing.

The cask ale is John Smith's, which sits aside its keg equivalent. The cask version was extremely ropey and only just drinkable, which gives you a clue as to where the priorities rely here.

On the plus side, the two guys behind the bar were friendly and welcoming and may just have taken over. I think I overheard a conversation suggesting that they were about to re-start food. They have much work ahead of them though.

Prominent village pub on an odd-shaped corner site, retaining its original two-bar layout. As you enter in the middle of the building, the bar to the right includes the main dining area and the one to the left has a pool table and TV for live sport. Plenty of tables out the front for when the weather is fine. Lots of posters around for local events and live music, and the pub also offers B&B accommodation. A total of five handpumps are split between the two counters - on this visit dispensing Doom Bar, Landlord and Golden Best from Timothy Taylor, Bath Ales Gem (£3.50) and Old Rosie cider - and a hot mulled Westons cider also on offer.
