A fairly standard Marston's eatery type of pub, but in a superb location with both the Cathedral and the Castle on it's doorstep. Lots of different levels inside all set up for dining. Sadly it's got the tedious Marston's selection of beer as well. Hobgoblin, Hobgoblin Gold and Pedigree, to be fair the Pedigree was well kept. It was pretty busy, but not full and they were already warning people that there was an hours wait for food. This is not a pub that's worth an hour of anyone's time really.

The Magna Carta was originally a Mansfield tied house,an i am pretty sure it was not pub in the 80s.
Once inside the bar faces and there is a mix of normal tables and chairs and a few normal ones, there is more seating on three different levels,so if the ground level room is full try the other floors which whenever we have been in are also full, probably best to wait for the pub to open to get a seat.
The pub is now a Marstons tied house,on my recent visit i had a drink of Jennings Cumberland and have had Pedigree and Ringwood best in the past, plus other Marstons beers on the many occasions we have been here.
This is a decent enough pub that does decent priced food.

This is a corner Marston's pub and eatery with a patio area that occupies a couple of buildings now knocked into one. The pub is primarity in undressed brick, with three floors (and a lower level inside). The main frontage is in black and white, with large windows, pilasters and a main corner entrance. The middle fllor has a few oriel windows in black and the rest of the windows are four-pane sash with stone lintels.

The interior has a bar area and seating for food over four floors, accessed by a zig-zag central staircase. The decor is a familar French mustard colour, red, wood panel, with a cream ceiling and a wood floor on the ground level, with carpet on the others. We didn't eat here, it felt too touristy - there is a general Marston's budget menu. Mirrors and old photos of the area decorate the walls for interest. There was no TV that i saw and the background music was quiet and general. The service was fine and there were a number of people in, eating and drinking - a complete mixed crowd.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Cumberland Ale, Hobgoblin, Pegiree Diamond and a very good Jennings Snecklifter on handpull.

A generic Marston's foody place, with a choice of four ales and one cannot fault the Snecky. Worth a visit if you have the family, or want to be near the Castle/Cathedral. Worth a swifty if not.
