Family Sunday lunch carvery. Not great sized portions and I would have preferred to put the sauce on the lamb myself - arrived swamped in gravy and mint sauce. The roast beef was not rare, despite asking for it, and the slices were a little mean (compared to the fantastic portions and quality of a pub we visited in Lake District the week before). Overall good food, especially desert, although spoilt by surly service (no smiles, seemed a little put out to have to serve us), including taking 30 minutes to get the bill despite me asking 2 times and sending my son to bar twice. What annoyed me most was the subsequent lack of care whatsoever, manifest in lack of apology, just excuses (we're busy, one new staff member)...even the landlord who then overheard and interjected failed to apologise himself. Lack of basic customer service.
