Lovely community local in a wonderfully pretty Leicestershire village. The pub exterior is modest and isn't obvious, you need to keep an eye out as it's at an angle to the road – look out for the unprepossessing tall pub sign. Inside is a gently opened-out multi-area’d layout, one of which is under a brick arch. Light and bright with a chunk of rural character, including a flagstone floor. To the rear is a tidy tiered garden which looks to be a summer winner. GBG20 listed and there were five ales on; Old Growler (NBSS 4), Castle Rock Elsie Mo, Bradfield Farmers Blonde (4), Beavoir Bitter and Dowbridge Acris (4), served-up by a chatty landlord. There’s a good community hub here, as evidenced by the Community Christmas Card, a new one on me but a simple premise – save money and save the planet – don’t send a card to every house in the village, put a tenner in the charity pot and sign this big one on the pub wall. Only one spare table left on the afternoon session post Boxing Day, testament to pub’s popularity. Really enjoyed my visit, a proper village local well-worth seeking out.

The Chandlers Arms is a proper old pub that is in a very quiet village, the pub has a bare brick front and it is on a hill.
Once inside the bar faces as you enter, this area has got a stone floor and a few bench saets, there is a small raised area to the right this area was carpeted and had normal tables and chairs there was a lower level to the left which looked more like a dining room and lounge.
There was a very good choice of micro beers on the bar with five real ales on,i had a drink of Julian Church Vicar of Dribley and this was a very nice drink the other beers were Church End Gravediggers Ale, Dowbridge Acris, Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Bath Ales Barnstormer.
This was a really nice pub to sit in and relax over a very nice drink.

A lovely local boozer in a traditional Leicestershire village, The Chandlers Arms is easily missed as it looks the same as the surrounding brick built cottages with only a tall but nondescript sign as a pointer.
The bar stands in front of you on entry and is in a small, stone flagged, snug area. To the left is a larger room with tables laid for eating and to the right a lounge area with more comfortable, upholstered wooden furniture. There's also a fairly discreet tv in the lounge area which, thankfully, was off on our visit. Lots of polished wood and exposed brick gives a traditional feel.
The welcome is friendly from all. The landlord clearly knows his ale and is considering brewing on the premises. Food is fairly standard pub fair and my plaice and chips was ok and at £4.95, decent value.
Beer: Four handpumps were offering Bath Ales Barnstormer, Springhead Maid Marion Blonde, Dowbridge Acris and Church End's Pews Porter. The latter two are brewed locally in Leicestershire. My guess is that all four rotate as there was no indication of regular ales but there is clearly a comittment to local ales and the landlord did say that he offers at least one dark beer all year round which may be a mild in the Summer. As it was a cold day, the Pews Porter took precedence and was excellent and well served. Any regular Guiness drinkers really should try this or similar styles as they offer a flavouful alternative to the ubiquitous, pasteurized, Irish stout.
Worth seeking out if you're in the area and I would definitely return.
