This pub is holding its own ground and serving up some very well kept ales, in spite of the fierce competition from the micro pub only a hundred yards down the road. As Will describes below, this is a two roomed pub with the main feature being the inglenook fireplace in the left hand side lounge. The pub had a traditional interior with a slightly modern edge to it and the place was spotlessly clean. I met the new landlord on our visit, who was very down to earth and chatty, so would have liked to have stayed longer. Eight pumps with five ales on, Charnwood Salvation and Vixen, Pentrich Citra, Welbeck Abbey and Doombar. We went for the two Charnwood and Pentrich Citra, all of which were top class.

A large village inn with two distinct rooms - I went in the one on the left, which had some modern vari-patterned tiles on the floor, a stone fireplace with inglenook seating and smart tables and chairs. Some annoying pop music was playing, but it was otherwise quiet, with just two customers at the time of my midday visit. Beers were listed on a blackboard in the entrance, with hand pumps split between the bar counters in each part of the pub, so that not all were visible to me. Charnwood beers, brewed in nearby Loughborough, are advertised on the external walls, and two were available: Vixen and Salvation. Others were familiar names that are widely available. I went for the Vixen, which was in very good condition and went down a treat.
