On my previous visit to Loughborough I only visited four pubs and somehow mislaid my notes so didn't write any reviews. This was not one, though I did take a photo and thought it looked like one I should visit if I ever came back. Fast forward almost seven years and here I am. The interior of the pub is maybe a bit starker and less traditional than I had assumed, though it still has a two roomed layout. I took the door on the left and found myself in the games room, with the hand pumps facing into the lounge opposite, but the licensee was happy to recite the cask beers for me and I plumped for a half of Bass. This was really good, and I was regretting not having asked for a pint. Instead I went for the Bateman's rugby themed beer, a 4.5% bitter called Hooker which was also NBSS 4.5. Gosh! Four cask beers so far in Loughborough, two 4s and two 4.5s, and the keg beer in the intervening Bell Foundry hadn't been too bad either. This pub is only a short walk outside the central part of town and is worth whatever effort it takes to get here.

No change here. Friendly barman. The Bass was between barrels, so a pint of Bateman’s XXXB did for me, which was fine although approaching barrel-end (NBSS 3). Felt like an unlucky visit.

November 2022
Large two room corner pub which has been recently modernised and the bar front aside there's no heritage left. The right room is a steely blue colour, the left having light neutral tones with what looks like vandalised wood panelling. Sports TVs with an audience of nil. A surprising six pumps spread across the two rooms with a fair selection of four on, I plumped for Bass which was a bit watery and lacking distinction (NBSS 2) served by a very polite and friendly barman who made a point of checking the beer was clear. Place feels like it’s been shot from a cannon and has missed the landing point. The students probably dig it I suppose but I think it's not really sure what it wants to be. Rated 5

Strongers . left this review about The Generous Briton

The Generous Briton has a left-hand public bar with seating and a pool table and dartboard in the rear, but I spent my visit mainly in the tile floored right-hand lounge bar where black leatherette stools with odd metal hoops on the back line the serving counter. There’s a stone fireplace on the front wall and one of the two televisions was showing muted Sky Sports while some 1960’s background music played. Premium keg was available alongside Neck Oil and Carling, and three of the four hand pumps I spotted were drawing Bass, Bateman’s XXXB and Charnwood Brewery’s Salvation. The service from the barmaid was very friendly so I’d pop back in for one if passing.
