Located on Kingsbury Square, which spurs off from the main Market Square, albeit with less cobbles, this is one of Aylesbury's more homely pubs, although as mentioned below, it's been made over to fit in with the 21st century. This means ceiling and beams are now covered in a mushroom-coloured paint and walls and doors are either blue, green or both. Two entrances suggest subdivision in a former life, with an inglenook-type fireplace to the right of the bar. Seating decreases in height from right to left, with high tables and chairs far right, standard tables and chairs opposite the bar and tan leather upholstered banquettes with Britannia tables and stools far left. Of the five pumps, just two were inhabited on this pre-second Covid lockdown visit - Wadworth Korizon and Rosie's Pig cider with the Horizon in fine fettle, even if it was £4.10 for the privilege. Just myself and another solo punter in on a weekday lunchtime visit, slightly outnumbered by the two barmaid and occasional additional staff member who would emerge from an unseen ingress point to chat to them. Muzak played at an acceptable level, and 'Original Pirate Material' by The Streets was a tune I've not yet heard in a pub before. OK, if you like your music in a British social commentary vein.

Another of Aylesbury's made-over old inns; this one left with a 'L'-shaped bar and semi-modern furniture / decor. Beer garden advertised. Not much character remaining, but at least I got a friendly welcome. Three handpumps on the counter, offering Brakspear Bitter, Everards Tighthead (£3.70, in good condition) and Thatcher's Cheddar Valley cider.

I went to The Rockwood with friends for a casual lunch, at first impressions the pub is a classic English pub, an old building with traditional timber beams and an open fireplace. The menu was a mix of light bites and pub classics and considering me and my friends all have differing tastes in food, there was something for everyone. we were pleasantly suprised to find that all food was homemade considering the value for money, and was delicious and filling.
the staff were very weloming and curteous and we found the atmosphere and overall experience at The Rockwood very pleasurable. we would definately go back again and reccomend The Rockwood to anyone who enjoys either a meal or a drink in a laid back, civilised environment.
