Up the hill from the Metrotram thingy. 3 cask ales available. Descriptions elsewhere but it is a decent friendly pub. Lots of tellies to watch your favourite team or horse get beat.

This L-shaped pub, just a short walk from Rochdale train station, is the home of the Greenmill Brewery whose brew house can be found at the back of the pub. The pub comprises of two notional sections, with the long space running from the entrance to the back of the room having the majority of the seating including some leather banquettes and some comfy tub chairs. The room is carpeted and there were a couple of TV screens on showing rolling news and This Morning when I visited just after opening last Saturday. The other section, to the right of the front door is a more compact wooden floor space which has been filled with a pool table. There are a few pictures dotted around the walls, many of which depict famous buildings such as the Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building. There is also a dartboard at the rear of the pub near the door to the toilets. Loud pop music was playing during my visit, which seemed out of place at such a time of day.
There are three handpulls at the bar and I was able to choose from Greenmill Gold, Phoenix Navvy and Cottage MGB. I couldn’t pass up the chance to try a Greenmill brew, but thought the Gold was a bit past its best, which was a shame. An extensive food menu is detailed on a large blackboard and seemed reasonably priced.
This is a fairly solid pub with enough about it to recommend and although it doesn’t match up to some of Rochdale’s top pubs, it is well worth including on any crawl around town.

Update - Green Mill brewery have now moved into the old brewhouse.

This is a pub I visit regularly. It used to be the home of the McGuinness brewery, but after a fire the brewery equipment was sold on and is now being used by Offa’s Dyke Brewery who also took the brewer along with the kit. The pub interior had to be completely refurbished after the fire and is now a modern looking L shaped one roomer, slightly at odds with the old stone exterior. There’s a pool table on the right as you go through the door and a large lounge to the left with some comfortable chairs along with some dining style tables and chairs. Three handpumps on the bar one of which always serves Phoenix Navvy, the other two are changing guests often from Hornbeam and Moorhouses. Some of the clientele can sometimes be a bit rough and ready but the other half is happy to visit regularly, so it’s not rough really. Has live music on Sundays and a rock disco on Fridays. Tony and Jackie run a good pub.
