Lovely cosy village pub just outside Ormskirk. though unsurprisingly majoring on food it’s still very much a traditional locals pub at the bar with three decent ales on today. Old style decor and friendly regulars make this a very worthwhile place to visit if you’re in the area. The food is probably also good judging by the reserved tables on a Tuesday evening.

THE PRINCE ALBERT IS A TRADITIONAL PUB SITUATED IN THE VILLAGE OF WESTHEAD. THE BEERS ARE ALWAYS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (INCLUDING A MINIMUM OF TWO GUEST ALES) AND THE SERVICE IS SECOND TO NONE. A SELECTION OF FINEST QUALITY HOME COOKED MEALS ARE AVAILABLE DURING THE AFTERNOON AT PRICES THAT CERTAINLY WON'T BREAK THE BANK, AND THE SUNDAY ROAST IS ALWAYS A BIG SELLER (ADVISABLE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE). THE PRINCE ALSO HAS ROOMS AVAILABLE ON A BED AND BREAKFAST BASIS AT VERY REASONABLE RATES. MANDY AND SIMON ARE THE PERFECT HOSTS AND MAKE THEIR CUSTOMERS FEEL AT HOME.

The is the sort of roadside pub that you would always notice but generally pass by but if you are looking for a lucky dip stop off, this is a pretty decent place to check out. The interior is plain, simple and unfussy with 4 distinct areas divided by various wooden railings. The bar area is largely standing with a tiled floor whilst to the left is a games section containing a TV and dart board. Down one side of the pub is raised lounge area with built in seating and a large brick fireplace. Opposite the bar is a cosy snug.

The 4 ales available on my visit were Tetleys, Tetleys Mild, Southport Carousel and Blach Sheep Best with very keen prices. The food was also good value with some tempting Sunday specials (shame it wasn’t a Sunday when we called though).

Overall quite a decent unpretentious place worthy of a quick stop at least.
