There are claims that the pub dates from 1753 however the interior is quite modern with a carpeted bar and pastel shade decor. The main room with the bar on the back wall is rectangular and has a few high tables but standard seating too with a pair of window seats. A man v food challenge fills one wall and looks rather crass. Another side room has an unusable dartboard with seating in front and a strange wall mural of a Space Invader game screen.
To the other side of the bar a door leads to the "Eton Snug" which has a single long rough hewn table and a framed display of barrel caps on an end wall. There is a courtyard paved garden to the rear.
Two beers from Rebellion, Mutiny and Roasted Nuts plus Lilley's Crazy Goat cider. Food is apparently served but I didn't investigate.
The pub felt a bit soulless I thought, not helped by being chilly with the fire unlit and only having a couple of other customers, one being a bloke who kept trying to engage me in pointless and uninteresting conversation.

A massive interior overhaul here since my disastrous visit eight(!) years ago. A radical décor change, it's now white and mushroom colours, carpeted and a large frieze on the right hand wall of the semi-famous picture of American workman having lunch sat along a skyscraper beam. Thankfully the window perches remain. Some old US car registration plates mounted on a beam spanning the bar. Man vs food challenge board on the left wall, the fame side empty but plenty of mugshots on the shame side. Irritating R&B muzak more for the barmaid’s pleasure than the punters. A more intimate rear room is located through a small doorway, containing a dart board, daily papers and an unusual wall-sized space invaders arcade game graphic. A basic patio side garden can be accessed from here. Unusual atmosphere, an oddly working man's local with a smattering of Eton types in attendance, perhaps trying to rough it a bit. One ale, Rebellion Smuggler, which tasted OK but was lackadaisical in character and I dumped the dregs in the patio. I suppose it is a faint improvement on previous but I suspect it’ll be at least another eight years before I reappear.

Three of the four real ales off when I went - the barmaid changed them over quickly and with no fuss but three of the four off makes me think they have no clue as to what they're doing. Dark and orange-y interior like a tart’s boudoir, which I enjoyed but won't be to everyone's taste I guess. Nice window perches. Rated 4
