Large, imposing corner pub on the main road out to Todmorden and close to Towneley Park. Upon entering, there is one long room with the bar to the right. A snug to the right just as you enter seemed to be out of use on my visit. A further room, set up for diners, can be accessed at the back.
The pub is smart and traditionally furnished, pleasingly in what I would call 'proper' pub colours of green and brown. The tiling on the stairway and wooden fixtures are of particular note. A roaring log fire compounded the homely atmosphere.
It was moderately busy on my Friday night visit- the food operation here is seemingly popular.
A handpump was sadly unused, the friendly landlord said there isn't a great call for real ale, which is a pity.
I enjoyed my visit here more than I was expecting, it's a solid and pleasantly traditional boozer with a lot to admire. There's not much for the real ale fan, but those who enjoy a proper pub atmosphere could do worse than pop in as part of a double header with the Rifle Volunteer around the corner.

Quite a large pub set on a busy main road, about a mile outside the town centre.I called in one Friday lunchtime and found the pub clean and well furnished, and was doing a good trade on the catering front.Although i did not dine myself was quite impressed with the meal portions served at a favourable price.
