Steve C left this review about The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel looked closed as I approached, but the door was ajar so I wandered in. Immediately to the right is a small seating area and a U-shaped bar counter is found on the front wall to the left. A sparsely furnished area with a DJ booth in the corner is found towards the rear and in the left are a couple of pool tables as well as a jukebox. TNT Sport is advertised, but during my early evening visit rolling news was being aired. Standard keg was available alongside Poretti, I went for a pint of Fosters which set me back £2.80. I can see the attraction for the three down to earth locals who were sat at the bar counter. The service was polite, but I was left wondering where this place got its name from because it is neither regal or a hotel, in fact it feels like a social club.

This is much bigger than you would think from the outside. It's just a large barn with a bar there's a dartboard to the right and a pool table to the left. There's also a conservatory area to the rear. The outside signage says that they sell cask ale, they don't, so that's going to cost you a point. There were 2 schoolkids sat at the bar, that's another one gone. Full of hi viz jackets and swearing at 5 on a Friday despite the kids. It's a really crap pub and it's perfect for Farnworth a town that really should be in the top three in "Crap Towns".
