This is a handsome pub with 4-5 real ales on. Recommended. But not on a Monday.

This pub is shown in the film Genevieve is a 1953 British comedy film produced and directed by Henry Cornelius and written by William Rose. It stars John Gregson, Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More and Kay Kendall as two couples comedically involved in a veteran automobile rally. The original name of The Jolly Woodman is shown on the main road side with the name Tamplins on the front and rear.

A very characterful pub - multi-area’d country inn feel with open eaves, upright piano, hung agricultural implements, china horses, exposed brick walls, central wood burning stove and loads of bottles atop the wooden ceiling beams. Fantastic chintzy garden to rear with plenty of gnomery. However a tinny local radio playing chart hits knackered up the ambience somewhat. Initially excited by spying five pumps with four ales on - West Berks GOB, Cottage, Brains SA and Doom Bar were the choices - but sadly my GOB wasn’t up to much and had a distinctly odd taste to it (overused cask breather?). I hope I got unlucky with the beer as this really is an interesting little place to come out to and I’d give it another go without too much prompting.
