Requested be closed with reason - Other: "Regretfully, we have to announce that the Red Lion will be closing with immediate effect today, Thursday 21st March. This is unlikely to be a surprise to our customers who will have been aware that the pub has had a difficult trading period for some months, compounded by electricity and gas outages and high running costs. Consequently, the pub is unable to continue trading. Thank you for your custom and support over the last 18 months. Please contact Stonegate for any enquiries regarding the pub.

Re-furbed and re-opened mid-December.
August 2022
And lo it has come to pass - what was once a nice little pub with good beer and good food with a cosy interior is now dead, after all three were cut off at the knees. Shame.
November 2019
I think the former licensee has gone. The place has been stripped-back and the ale range reduced to two plodding nationals in pretty middling condition. What a shame.

I'm not a fan of the refurb, not as cosy as it was.

Upmarket foody pub which nonetheless serves an impressive selection of ale (up to 5 - usually varies but at least one LocAle) in good condition, if perhaps a bit one-dimensional on the style front. They also open early for coffee some mornings too. Nice garden at the rear and ample parking. Food prices aren't the cheapest but I've eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed it. I think the place is best sampled outside peak times when it's less of a restaurant and more a local pub atmosphere. Nice garden. Ladies - check out the loos (or see the pics posted here). If you're doing the Bell at Aldworth this place is about 5 mins drive away and a decent stop-off.

This has to be the best pub in Berkshire (that I can find).
Has a good selection of real ale ("good Old Boy" is superb)and excellent food and suprisingly not over priced, the atmosphere is brilliant with live music on most Thursday nights.
