Steve C left this review about The Stumble Inn

The Stumble Inn has a central bar counter that faces seating under the front windows, some of which have the old pub name of Crown Inn still etched onto them. To te left is a pool table and dartboard and in the left rear is more seating, another dartboard and access to a patio garden out the back. During my recent midweek late afternoon visit I plotted in the right rear which is served by a corner of the bar. Televisions are found throughout for airing the advertised live football, although they were all off while some background music played. My visit was a few days before Halloween so the friendly, but very short, woman running the bar was attempting to attach decorations onto hooks on the ceiling using a pool rest, which was mildly amusing. I was hoping the local in attendance would offer a hand, but he was engrossed in the gaming machine. Drink wise only standard keg was available so I ended up with half a Fosters. The limited draught selection would put me off returning.

Now a semi-modernised free house, but its heritage as a former Fremlins pub known as the Crown Inn as evidenced in some of the retained etched glazing. Plainly furnished and decorated throughout the partly opened-out interior, with the larger (and busier) of the formerly separate bars having a pool table at the far end. Beyond that, there are two further seating areas that effective link back to create an islanded counter. Still no real ale, unfortunately, so went for the Courage Dark Mild (£3.05) as a change.

Originally The Crown, there has been a pub here since 1599, although the present building was built in 1893 when it was owned by Rigden's Brewery . It was renamed Stumble Inn in 1993 and is now a freehouse and a lively town pub which retains an association with the old paper mills community. It houses a single large, slightly scruffy bar with a pool table and tv screens, illuminated by stained glass and etched windows. It offers regular evening entertainment, and there is a genuine welcome from the staff and banter from the locals. Sadly there is no real ale, so I wouldn't include it on a crawl at the moment.
