An example of how a decent boozer can fail, this single room back street bar is now devoid of life (well, human life anyway), atmosphere, electric lighting and ale. No beer was on offer when we visited, and the female humanoid, very much not from around these parts, who failed to serve us was just unpleasant. This is probably why the pub is currently for sale. This Admiral needs to be shot 'pour encourager les autres'.

Walking through the entrance of the British Admiral leads one straight to an L shaped bar that runs around to the left rear. At the rear are a pool table and a dartboard that was being used by a few locals, old and young, for some arrow chucking. There is a plasma screen that was airing a documentary about death row prisoners. The extremely friendly barmaid was in mind to turn off the TV but the two aged locals in the bar had become addicted to the story so it remained on. It was a cold Thursday night that I visited and a couple of old gas heaters were on overdrive to make the pub toastie.
Alongside some standard draught the bar supports three hand pumps. One of these was off leaving Young’s Ordinary and Briscoe’s Auld Lang Syne as the ale options.

This is a back street boozer that I could take or leave and I wouldn’t go out of my way to revisit, but I do wish that the barmaid worked at my local because she was joyful and cheered up a rather poor atmosphere.

Nice little pub, bigger round the back. Nice guy called Dave running it. Very welcoming and nice drinks as well. Worth a look.
