Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Cinque Ports Arms

Proper small-town pub, with a busy bar with a sports TV at the front but at least four other seating / dining areas to the right-hand side and at the back. All parts refurbished, but in a reasonably traditional way. The bank of five handpumps was fully operational, offering IPA, London Glory, Abbot and the seasonal Fireside (£5.90 with a packet of peanuts) from Greene King plus Dark Star's Hophead as a guest.

There were four ales on in here – GK IPA, London Pride, Rocking Rudolph, and Cotleigh Hopsmith (£3.30 a pint). The Hopsmith was on fine form, but as the name suggests it is a hoppy ale. The barmaid did her very best to convince me to have a pint of the Rocking Rudolph, even giving me a taster, but my opinion remained the same as before – that Rocking Rudolph is good for a Greene King beer. It seems that the staff here are on some kind of incentive scheme with a prize for who knocks out the most pints of the Rudolph. A challenging competition I would say.

There’s no food here as the new kitchen’s apparently not yet up and running. They used to have a functioning kitchen as the room on the right (now with some sofas and a bit more upmarket) used to be the dining room. But it’s now more spacious than I recall, so I suppose that the old kitchen’s been subsumed into the public area.

The left hand room is more of a public bar; it had more of a public bar clientele, there was a games machine, a TV (muted) showing a sports channel, and a quarry tile floor. On the plus side, the only furnishings were normal tables and chairs. I saw free wifi advertised, plus live music on the Friday I was in, and on the Saturday. Luckily I was in too early to experience the live music. There’s a massive brick built fireplace dividoing the two room, plus, unsurprisingly, plenty of black painted beams on the ceilings.

There are now only two traditional pubs in the centre of New Romney – this one is better for the beer, but now I think the Ship Hotel just shades it as a pub.

The Cinque Ports continues to be a pleasant, basic , traditional small-town pub which does good basic food and keeps its beers well. The landlord is always welcoming, the locals are friendly and the atmosphere is convivial. This is one of New Romney's better pubs. My last couple of pints - both from White's - were well kept at the right temperature and enjoyable. Must be included in any town crawl.
