I was the only customer during a recent early Tuesday evening visit. The right-hand “function room” side of the pub was closed so I spent my stay in the smaller left-hand bar with the pub dog who was lazing on a sofa by the log-burner. On the chimney breast above the burner was a plasma screen that was showing muted rolling BBC News whilst music played off the jukebox. Live music and cabarets are advertised for Friday nights and a monthly quiz is held here. There is a pool table and accommodation is available.
The usual keg suspects were available alongside Red Stripe and Dry Hopped Craft Lager. Two of the three handpumps I counted were unused leaving Wantsum Brewery’s One Hop Fuggles as the ale option. UB5 Craft Ale was also advertised. Picnic tables are found out the front and to the rear where there is a car park.
I found the guy working behind the bar to be polite enough, but I was glad to leave.
