Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cressy Arms

Fairly basic corner local with a narrow reversed J-shaped layout around the angled counter. All tidy enough, with a pool table at the far end, but - now unusually - it retains its coronavirus screens, which now seems a bit off-putting. After thinking that all four handpumps were off, it became clear that the one with the hand-written Dark Star Hophead clip was working (£4.00).

The Cressy Arms is a decent looking white painted pub that is to the South of the town centre.
Once inside there is a roughly V shaped room with the bar in the front area, the room is carpeted, there is bench seating and chairs to the right and normal tables and chairs on the front left side which extends further to the rear where there is a lino floor, there is a pool table and darts board to the rear, the TV was showing the end of the Bournemouth V Spurs game.
There were two real ales on,i had a drink of Courage Best which was a decent drink, the other beer was Hobgoblin Gold.
The pub was very busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I quite like pubs like this.

A traditional but fairly unremarkable pub a fair walk from the town centre which is generally of little interest to anyone other than the locals albeit it has occasionally appeared in the Good Beer Guide.

The interior is quite plain, a bit dated and quite awkwardly shaped a sharp curve around the pointy bar at one end. Despite the best attempts to fill up the walls with several interesting old town pictures, redundant LP covers and numerous cheap promotion posters, it does all look a bit bare and tatty in places. One side of the pub contains a quite intrusive pool table and there is a small ante room with sport pictures, a reproduction newspaper covering the 1966 World Cup Final as well as a dart board (years ago I used to play here quite regularly). At the rear is a small patio which will be more of a smokers feature than any great asset to the pub.

There has been a bit of activity on the beer front since my previous visit with 3 new hand pulls installed although on first glance they actually look like keg beer engines. A fourth more traditional hand pull sits further round the bar. The ever present Courage Best always used to be supplemented by 2 interesting guest beers which made the trip worthwhile however my latest visit saw Youngs Special and Bombardier in place of the guest beers which, if a permanent policy, will certainly reduce my need for future visits.

It has always been a very “take us as you find us” sort of place but I have never encountered anything untoward or unwelcoming. It is very much a community place and they even operate a "collect your post" scheme which saves a few people the mile hike to the sorting office. It has generally been pretty quiet every time I have popped in although they do list a varied and sometimes imaginative entertainment programme that would either attract or repel customers depending on you taste (live music / karaoke / quizzes / poker nights / blindfold pancake flipping etc). Given the current dumbed down ale selection, I wouldn’t suggest the trek from the town centre if you are a beer enthusiast but if passing, it will kill an hour.
