This pub has previously had a reputation for being violent, unfriendly and dangerous, but since its makeover three years ago none of that is true any more. Drunks are no longer encouraged, and the police were more interested in the KFC than this pub. OK, it's a bit rough around the edges, but what I experienced was a genuine, friendly welcome from the staff, while the clientele was a group of hoodie-free, normal people enjoying a drink. It comprises a single large corner bar at what has become the end of the high street. There is a dart board, tv screen, gaming machines and pool table. The jukebox was banging out some awful noise and the carpet was sticky. There is a reasonable garden in which to escape the high street bustle. No real ale ('no-one buys it'), but it's a real pub, one of the few left in Chatham town centre, so is worth dropping in if passing.

The White Lion is located at the end of Chatham High Street and advertised on the wall outside are live music nights and karaoke nights alongside pool and dart knockouts. Inside the pub to the right of the entrance is a small stage area where the karaoke and live music must be set up. The dartboard is located to the left next to the bar that runs along the rest of the left hand wall. The pool table is at the rear of the pub and there are three plasma screens which I imagine show Sky Sports, although I didn’t spot any advertisements.
My visit was on the Monday afternoon the week before Christmas when there was a jubilant band of ten or so locals in attendance. I found the service to be very friendly, but the solitary hand pump was off meaning that I had to have a generic lager.

I thought that this place was ok for a high street boozer and I would have no problem popping back in if passing.
