The Shipwrights Arms is an L shaped pub that was populated with three locals when I visited late on a recent Monday afternoon. I was given a friendly welcome by the landlady, but the pub dog took an instant dislike to me and spent the entirety of my stay either staring or barking at me. The lights were off in the right hand side of the pub and when I popped my head around the corner to see what was on offer the aforementioned dog went nuts! I did manage to spot a dartboard and a pool table. There is a jukebox that was switched off as were the two plasma screens, but there was some background noise being created by a radio station. There is some random stuff on the walls and I noticed a few Irish road signs, but this did feel like a typical Irish boozer.
The bar is stocked with standard draught and I didn’t notice any food advertised.

This is a friendly enough (apart from the yapping dog) local’s pub, but I’m not sure that I will make the effort to walk from the railway station again for a revisit.

A large pub on its own plot in the middle of a developed are, The Shipwrights Arms consists of a large L-shaped bar with pool table, dart board and various gaming machines as well as the usual TV screens. Its size makes it feel light and airy, and it's mostly pleasantly decorated, with a few bits of tat dotted around. The carpet is well worn, all this, along with a noisy greeting from the pub dog, an enthusiastic Jack Russell, combines to give a homely feel, which is reinforced by the landlady's welcoming attitude.Sadly it has no real ale, and being a little off the beaten track (although paradoxically close as the crow flies to the railway station and several other pubs)I don't see my rushing back. In summary, nice pub, shame about the beer.
