One of the few remaining pubs on Wincheap approach to the city centre, this one must be quite old but has been given something of a semi-modern makeover inside (although some of the exposed timberwork in the opened out interior remains). The front part of what is now a L-shaped layout has lounge-style furniture (sofas, low tables, etc.) but the rear section is more traditional. Just London Pride (£4.30) available from a pair of handpumps, and nothing much of interest on the keg taps either.

A 15th Century pub with a car park and paved garden at the side and rear, though the views aren’t great. Inside, the single large bar is L-shaped and has an open fire at the apex. There is a dartboard at one end next to a comfy seating area. They host regular social events, and they have a good local clientele. The staff are quite welcoming, including the pub cat. Food looks home made, and they have a range of pizzas to supplement the standard pub grub mean, though the presence of a large Deliveroo sticker on the window made us wonder how ‘home made’ some of the dishes are. Only one ale on, Pride, which was drinkable. Worth dropping in for a pint as it’s close to the railway station.
