This pub was quite busy on our Thursday eve visit, with the majority of the customers calling in for a bite to eat. Five handpumps on the bar with only two in use, serving Volden Pale and Batemans. I went for the Volden pale which is very much to my taste and the beer was in excellent condition. As the main part of the pub was busy, we took our drinks and sat near the kitchen servery. This was a single narrow room with a side doorway leading to the street, this room had some wacky 70's style wallpaper, exposed brick and a collection of wall mounted plates.

This is another Antic pub in their usual mode. There's lots of exposed brickwork, and very much looks like a work in progress - although of course there is no work in progress. The external tilework is still very impressive, but inside it's been so messed about with that there's little of heritage value. The remnants of the snug at the front are still evident though.
As is also usual with Antic pubs, the beer selection was pretty good. I had the Volden Juniper (one of their house ales) which was in good shape as I recall.

An Antic pub nowadays but without the usual totally dishevelled half-built look. The main large room has the bar on the back wall, small regular tables along one side, an upright piano and with another small room directly off to the front which looked to be once a snug with the door relocated and the infilled door covered in train tickets. A side room off the bar has a distressed floor, wall mounted bagatelle boards, a carpet beater plus a shelf of books. We sat in the narrow back room which has a food servery to one end, an exposed brick wall with plates and kettles on hooks and a rooflight. The flooring in here had unusual incongruous lines of parquet infill which we deduced to be where walls once stood, confirmed by the exposed brickwork where previous toothing in could be seen. The divided spaces were so small they must have been toilets but some of us reckoned prior to this a bottle and jug hence the exterior door and old corridor line.
Anyway Time Team over, and incidentally toilets are now upstairs.
On to the beers, four of six clipped on, Volden Juniper, Bootleg Brew Co Urban Fox, Butcombe Big Geoff; coming soon were Brain's Rev James, Volden Session Ale and a retro tongue in cheek Watney's Pale Ale.
Handy for Bromley North over the road however not an easy journey from there for us so still a traipse back to Bromley South.
