A good backstreet pub with a strong local following. Apart from a bit of rough wood round the bar counter, it is largely unmodernised and features pool, darts and a ring the horn game. The barmaids were amusing themselves on a quiet afternoon by singing along to some overly loud music, which added a little cabaret. A barrel standing in the bar labelled Sandown Brewery indicated its brewpub history but there were just Doom Bar and the Greene King seasonal Conkers Bonkers on pump, but that at least was quite drinkable. Pleasant enough, and hidden from most of the tourists.
