Good review from Steve of N21,I would only add that in the main bar there is a large inglenook in working order, this would be an impressive feature in cold weather.I found the stripped interior a little sterile ,the gastro makeover has taken away some character but the small front dining room is particularly charming.
On my trip the three handpumps were dispensing Adnams Bitter,Nethergate Suffolk County and a seasonal Buntingford September Ale in good condition as you might expect from their entry into the 2012 GBG.I also enjoyed the food, with a regularly changing menu and seasonal dishes.Mains start at £10 but there are light bite options and a selection of sandwiches which will not tax the wallet as much.Order at the bar if seated in the main area,or go to the rear restaurant for table service.
I would certainly pop in again for a meal, this is a good addition to the gastro pub scene in Hertfordshire.

The Golden Fleece is one of the three remaining pubs in the Hertfordshire village of Braughing and sits just outside the village centre on the by-pass road, the B1368. It was closed for a few years but recently re-opened in Autumn last year after an extensive refurbishment.
It is now more of a Gastro pub and a significant proportion, namely the restaurant section beyond the bar, is constantly laid for dining. However, as you step in the front airy section in front of the bar has plenty of seating just for a drink.
And additionally there is a quaint hidden private dining room for hire seating about 12, which is off through a small door to the left of the bar.
It is a free house and there are three handpumps on the bar and Adnams is the regular beer. Adnams Bitter and Broadside were on along with Deuchars IPA on my last visit. Also seemed to be some different lagers to the normal run of the mill including Amstel and Birra Moretti.
Haven’t eaten here but the menu is quite extensive, offering starters priced at around £5 - £6 which can be expanded and served as main courses priced at around £10, and then the mains are priced from around £10 to £20.
Like all the pubs in Braughing it is west facing and has the advantage of having plenty of outside seating. As well as some wooden benches to the front there is a large outside terraced area to the back with metal tables and chairs and then a big garden space which stretches away from the pub and is a great area for catching the late evening sun.
In conclusion, good to see this place open again and it complements well the two more traditional pubs further down in the village.
