Reasonably large roadside pub that benefits from a nice garden area and a large car park. Extra seating had also been placed at the front of the pub.

Greene King IPA is the regular ale here. Guests yesterday were Adnams Ghost Ship & Hadham Gold.

The only real downer here was the service. The barmaid poured us a pint and a half, when we'd asked for two halves. She didn't seem too impressed when this was mentioned. Although, we did end up having the pint for the price of a half. But the customer is not always right in this establishment.

If you have the time the B1368 is a very picturesque alternative route to the A10 or M11 as it sits between them and winds through some excellent North Hertfordshire villages. Coming from the north the first of these is Barley with its two pubs.
The Green King pub The Chequers is the second of these and sits a bit back from the road. Internally the main bar area is one long space with a central bar and plenty of seating at both ends and then there is a separate smaller restaurant area..
Beers are the usual GK fare and OSH, Abbott and IPA were on during my last visit. Haven’t eaten here but the food offered is traditional pub food, at what seems a decent price.
There is a large garden area to the front of the pub for outside drinking and eating and the pub also benefits from a fairly large car park to the side.
