Paid a return visit to this one some 9 ½ years after my previous visit and in a fast changing world found it virtually unchanged. It’s still run by Brunning and Price, it’s still more of a food led restaurant than a pub but it still does a good range of ales. For this visit these included Vale Brewery Red Kite and Redemption Brewing Kazbek Blonde alongside the usual Brunning and Price Traditional Bitter (brewed by St Austell’s) and a couple of others. The difference with this visit was that we actually came here to eat and try it as a pub restaurant, and in that respect it didn’t disappoint either.

Very much a country gastro restaurant rather than a pub.
Having said that, the food is excellent, as is the beer, and not too highly priced for what you get.

A definite candidate for future visits.

The Cricketers is set back from the main road through Sarratt and from the outside has a traditional exterior. Inside though it has a large modernised interior which is largely a Gastro restaurant and any traditional country pub feel has disappeared in previous modernisations. But there are a couple of comfortable sections to the right of the bar with plenty of dark wood and comfy armchairs and a nice open fire which are for drinking only. And then there are outside seating areas both to the front of the pub overlooking the green and in the pleasant garden and patio area out back.
There is a bit of a cricketing theme to some of the decoration, most notably in the pub sign and the boot scrapers outside the front door, which are in the shape of wickets.
The pub clearly has an emphasis on food to pull the punters in, but there is also a serious focus on Real Ale as well and the pub is listed in the GBG13, primarily because there are five ale hand pumps on the bar dispensing a range of guest ales from regional and local microbrewers.
Alongside the Westerns Old Rosie Scrumpy and the house Ale of London pride, there were Brunning & Price Original Bitter, Cottage Western Glory, Titanic Black Ice and Oakleaf Dragon on the Floor on for my visit.
I guess most of their clientele come from people visiting to eat (for which you can get their experiences on Trip Advisor.) But although not the type of place you’d be comfortable staying in all evening, it’s still definitely worth stopping at if in the area for a decent pint, especially if the sun is out and you can use one of the outside areas.
