The Cart and Horses is a small pub with a large garden hidden away in the Hertfordshire country lanes between Chipperfield and Sarratt and can be a bit tricky to find.
The pub building itself is small and more functions as a restaurant. Internally it has a dark wood interior and an open fire. During the summer months the pub makes the most of its external space and has a huge enclosed and gated garden that can accommodate many more on the plethora of pub benches available. But it does aim at families and has large children’s play area and bouncy castle operating during these months and on the Saturday evening of my visit the whole place was overrun by screaming kids. So good if you have them , but might not be the place for you if you don’t like kids.
There is also a huge marque in the garden which seems to be used all year round as an over flow for the pub restaurant.
There is a couple of Ale hand pumps on the bar and alongside GK IPA was Brains Milkwood. We didn’t eat here and although the Milkwood was a decent pint there are plently of better beer only destinations in this part of Hertfordshire, so I can’t see myself returning in a hurry.
