A white painted brick building with a large car park and the entrance at the side or from the rear. Once inside, there's a pleasant feel of a long established pub. There's an open fire and Sky Sports on TV. On the bar are four hand pumps plus a number of mainstream keg fonts. The beers available at the time of my visit were Sharps Doom Bar and Atlantic, Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen: beers for which the term mainstream would also be appropriate. My half of GK IPA was in good condition, though this is not the sort of beer offering to get me hurrying back - but then again, I'm pretty sure I'm not the sort of customer they're aiming for here!

Mr Fastard's review below has the detail so I'll simply add that this is a comfortable, traditional pub which offered a warm welcome on a chilly Wednesday lunchtime.
The menu featured some imaginative pub grub and everything that came out looked substantial and decent. They must be doing something right as the place was fairly busy with satisfied customers.
Ale selection was dull with GK IPA, Doom Bar and a well kept Tring Sidepocket but a more imaginative choice would be needed for me to wax lyrical about the place.
Nonetheless, this is a very decent place to stop for a quick pint or a bite to eat.

An old building situated on what was the old coaching route from London to Aylesbury and beyond, the entrance from the car park is marked as the Lounge but if you walk through a corridor to the left of the island bar ,you come to The Village Room with a pool table, dart board above a fireplace , flat screen and a few seats;a traditional public bar.The Lounge is more attractive with some very substantial low beams, traditional furniture,a rear section with a snug feel and another seperate section with french windows leading to partially covered garden seating. In the lounge every table has a number triangle but there is no problem basing yourself here for a beer.
There were three handpumps with GK IPA,Doom Bar and a very decent Tring Sidepocket at £3.10.The barmaid was quick to spot my pint was rather throthy to pour and immediately consulted the landlady who changed the barrel .Many pubs would have tried to palm off that end of barrel pint but not here which was very admirable. The new barrel produced just about the best pint of Sidepocket I have ever tasted.
Although I didn't eat ,plenty of other were and the prices for a range of pub staples looked very reasonable. My only beef was that the musak was played at an unnecessary volume,a mere fly in the ointment.
Well worth the short walk west from the canal,I would like to return for a lunchtime stop and a bite to eat.Despite a mundane ale selection, the condition of my pint also warrants a return.
