The Compasses is a family run pub in the large Hertfordshire village of Abbots Langley, that sits equidistant between junctions 20 and 21A of the M25, just north of Watford.
Internally it’s a traditional pub decor with two individually styled bars, a small restaurant room, and a decent sized covered heated decking area out the back of the larger bar and then a large Beer Garden with children’s play area to the right of this.
I found the larger left hand bar that leads out to the external space more comfortable, with its range of interesting photographs on its walls and sofa-style seating around the edge.
As mentioned below the pub supports four real ales alongside the standard draft options and GK Abbott, Courage Best Bitter, Spitfire and Sharps Doombar were on for my visit and the couple I tried were in very good condition.
Solid enough place, not enough to make it a destination pub, but I wouldn’t have a problem with it being my local if I lived nearby.

One of the best new pubs I've discovered for a while. Nice bright frontage and the pub is clean and well looked after. There's a small wooden floored bar at the front and a more comfortable bar at the side which leads into the garden area. This includes both a covered patio and a large grassed well-kept garden with a number of tables and a childrens play area. At the rear of the pub is a small restaurant area although food can be served throughout. Small whisky gantry. A Good Beer Guide entry and there are four handpumps with Pride, Abbot, Spitfire and Courage Best, £3.20 a pint, don't believe they rotate any guests. Beer has been in good condition on all visits and service was friendly and efficient. I believe it is a longstanding family run pub. Food served lunchtimes and evenings and I saw curry nights plus quiz and poker nights advertised. No children allowed ion the bar but plenty of facilities in the garden. Handy bus stop right outside the pub.
