Worthy of a seven rating for the exterior and interior decor. There were 3 handpumps serving Hogsback Session IPA, Flocks Romsey Gold and King Beer brewed for the pub. I went for the Hogsback, but unfortunately didn't hit the spot, after having the same pint of beer in the Hyde Tavern, beforehand. The prices in here were also elevated to £5.30 a pint. The interior stood out and was tastefully finished. I noticed a few local characters in for a drink, but mostly diners in for the gastro experience.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The King Alfred
Unusual backstreet corner pub, but with an impressive exterior and relatively large windows. The multi-room interior has a range of different-sized seating and dining areas around the central counter, all with upmarket furniture and decor. Larger-than-expected rear beer garden with a very proficient rock quartet playing when I called by. Although a Greene King house (run by the local Little Pub Group), there was no sign of its beers on the two banks of three handpumps, although the 'house' Kings Brew is probably re-badged Hardy & Hanson Best Bitter. The other available real ale was Tribute (£2.40, half).

Rather more impressive than I was expecting, set in a quiet backstreet,It is as Graham describes below but it would seem the beer choice has picked up a little, Six Handpumps in all ,two sets of three, only one set were in use with a choice of Hopback Summer Lightening, St Austell Tribute and a GK offering of Yardbird. A nice pub in a pleasant setting.
