A long-overdue revisit found four Fullers ales on the go. Little change over the last few years and was very busy again; so busy there were no seats so had to stand in the garden. It was dusk but it appeared that the trees have grown to an extent where the nice view mentioned below is no longer really available, which is a shame. Tried a half of the Gales HSB which was in good nick. Still a very nice little place this one, though in the context of having sampled 1000+ pubs in the interim (and having seen improvements across a large swathe) I think perhaps the 9 is now more like an 8.

A cracking Fuller's pub which gets a lot of plaudits - and rightly so on the basis of my recent visit. Discovery, Pride, ESB and HSB on the bar which were in good form - with a friendly barmaid behind the bar too which always helps. The place was busy on a Tuesday late afternoon which says something. The interior has an island bar and no ceiling, so you can see straight up to some of the roofing beams which have a number of old bottles lined along them. Make sure you visit the wonderful garden and patio area with good views which is a must in the summer. Other features include a TV with the sport on and food is available. Downside is perhaps that the beer is a bit expensive, though it usually is in Fuller's branded places - at least the quality here is spot-on. I'll be back sooner rather than later and would recommend a detour off the M4 to sample it. Rated 9
