The entrance was located down a side courtyard area, and into a central reception. The bar and lounge was located to the left of this, it was also worth a look into the front lounge of the Hotel, which really shows the age of the building.
The bar area was modern, bright and comfortable. Two handpumps with one in use serving Flacks Double Drop.

Posh hotel bar in aged building, parts dating circa 1500 if the plaque is to be believed. There’s a lovely set of galleried doors down the side entrance (which presumably led to old stables). The bar (to the left past reception) is obviously quite modern and loungey in style, modern (read bland) with rugs and mushroom shades on the walls plus piped music majoring on muted trumpets. Small selection of board games atop a pouffe. Surprisingly there were two ales and both local as well - Flack Double Drop and Upham Punter. My Flack was an odd one, in seemingly decent nick but odd-tasting. Noted that it came in an oversized glass and was also a similar price the Old House at Home. You’d have no real reason to seek this one but at least somebody’s making an effort at the bar.

The White Horse is very much open and you can book rooms on their website, they're also advertising events in October 2014 and at Xmas 2014.
The Coservative club is at 13 Market Place and is indeed a members club, but is also very much open.
