Attractive canal-side JW Lees pub, with a definite focus on food by the look of things? Anyway, it has a variety of seating / dining areas on both sides of the entrance, and on two levels to the left-hand side, and a beer garden at the side nearer the water. However, it's also in the Good Beer Guide, and I found the expected Bitter and MPA on two of the five handpumps, supplemented by a pair from the more experimental The Boilerhouse brand: Don't go off Wandering and Smash2* Mosaic (£4.70). Keg beers included the brewery's Stout and Manchester Craft lager.

Busy JW Lee's pub that features in the current Good Beer Guide. Entering from the car park, there is a bar area to the left of the entrance corridor, with dining areas at the far end of the corridor. Toilets are also just off the corridor.

I chose the main bar area, which had an area with a darts board and a TV showing coverage including the unexpected death of Shane Warne, which was a major talking point in the pub.

The young barman seemed enthusiastic. He had a choice of 4 Lee's ales to offer me. Bitter & MPA are the regular beers. The seasonal specials were Malt Crush & Dray Rumble. Having tried the Malt Crush down the road, I opted for the Dray Rumble, which was an improvement.

The bar area in here seemed to be much more of a traditional locals' pub than my previous stop (the Horton Arms). But there was still very little to recommend in this pub.

A massive Lees roadhouse, very close to Mills Hill station. There's a huge beer garden to the left of the pub and almost all the seats were taken early on a sunny Friday evening. As you enter there is a very large room to the left which seems to be mainly dining and was doing a roaring trade on my visit. To the right is a smaller room which was populated by the local drinkers and the cricket was being shown on a big screen. I tried to get a drink of the current Lees seasonal, but it went off as the barmaid started to pull my beer, so I ended up with Lees MPA, which was in good nick. It's a large pleasant pub, but who knows what it's like on a wet Monday in February.
