A decent pub this one and definitely worth a visit. The pub is situated in a residential area and attracts respectable locals. The pub had quite a lot of local rugby memorabilia around the walls and a board above the fireplace, gave a list of rugby fixtures. Five ales on handpump and two ciders on our visit. We went for the Box Steam Brewery Piston Broke, which was in good shape. The gents toilets can be found before you enter the pub at the main entrance, situated in a small annexe.

Although it doesn’t look much from the outside, this is a decent pub tucked a little way away from the central area at the other side of Henrietta Park. Well worth the short stroll to get here though, it was almost full to capacity even quite early on a Saturday evening.

The main bar is an attractive affair with a mixture of exposed stone walls, plaster and some wood panelling. There was a fireplace in one wall and a small TV up in the corner. There was also another bar at the rear where I spied a plasma showing a sports match, although this didn't have much in the way of atmosphere.

There is some limited seating outside, and although it’s facing on to the road there was very little traffic and this was a pleasant spot to while away an hour or two on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I believe there is also a small courtyard although I didn’t see this. There was a decent enough "pub grub" menu chalked up on a board above the fire, and our Cod & Chorizo Fishcakes were an unusual and tasty dish, and good value at £7.95.

Beers on this occasion were Timothy Taylor Landlord, Gem, Otter and London Pride. Ciders were Thatcher's Gold and Stowford Press, along with a couple more boxes stacked up on the end of the bar although I didn't spot what these were.
