Blackthorn _ left this review about Baker Street

Located in the shadow of the popular Gloucester Quays development and outlet shopping mall, this is a traditional pub that has managed to survive pretty much unchanged for some time by the looks of it. Quite what the connection to Baker Street is was unclear, although the pub signage featured a silhouette of the famous detective who lived there as well as a chalkboard drawing inside.

Internally it’s largely all one open plan room, although with the central bar counter and some small walls breaking up the space a little. To the left there was full height dark wood panelling on the walls which in a smaller room may have created quite an elegant feel, but here being opposite the bar counter and with a TV showing a sports channel stuck on the wall at one end, the effect was lost somewhat. Elsewhere the wood panelling was restricted to the lower part of the walls with rough white plaster and inlaid black timberwork above. A number of pictures were dotted around, as well as mirrors featuring brands such as Bass and Camp coffee. Flooring was predominantly red patterned carpet, with wood strip elsewhere and there was a pool table off to the right.

The solitary beer on tap was the very local Gloucester Gold, with a second pump appearing to have run out. Ciders fared better though with Thatcher’s Gold, Carling Black Fruit, Strongbow, Cornish Rattler and Stowford Press. Overall, whilst this pub has some nice architectural features, it somehow seemed a little down at heel and it’s not somewhere I would necessarily rush back to.

Old Boots left this review about Baker Street

A little south of the Heritage Docks, although on the corner of Baker St, the one referred to appears to be the one Sherlock Holmes lived in, god knows why a pub in Gloucester would be linked in this way, I don’t. The only reference to Baker St inside the pub are some London Underground signs for the station. It’s a largish open plan pub dominated by a long counter down one side. The interior is Brewers Tudor half timbered with cast iron support pillars stuck in barrels. There’s a big pull down screen at the front plus machines and piped music. Furnishings are mainly tables and chairs, there’s a section at the front with leather sofas and a low table. Free wi-fi is advertised. Two handpumps but only a mediocre Doombar was available.
