I remembered seeing this place when cycling through Ciren (without stopping) on a previous tour in this part of the Cotswolds, so went looking for it when I stayed here recently. I'm glad I found it (it's not difficult) because it's a really nice back street local. My visit was not at a foody time of day, so perhaps I'd have a different view if it had been, but what I found was a place where regular customers were meeting for a beer and a chat, and greeting a returning member of the darts team as though he'd won the World Cup.

The Ciren Bells Bitter is brewed on the premises and was a very gluggable best bitter. Other beers were from Wye Valley and the rather more local Ramsbury brewery. This one would be on my return visit list.

Another great pub.

This came up good for Sunday Lunch on Tripadvisor - so we came mainly for the food.

Which was excellent.

The beer quality was an unexpected bonus. Its a free house, with a chalk board advertising the brews. A couple from Wye Valley but I went for the Uley Bitter. Superb condition.

Great service. Everything about this place was excellent.

This is a smallish cotswold stone built pub that is close to the town centre.
There were two rooms and i went in a nice wood panelled room, there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Abbey Bellringer which was very nice the other beers were Kelham island Butt Jumper and Nethergate bitter.
I thought this was a really nice pub.

Pub visited 3 August 2002.
