I first came to Ford when I was about nine years old, for a family camping weekend (parents, brothers, uncles, aunts, cousins) in the field opposite the pub where the Jackdaw Castle racing complex is now situated. No doubt the grown ups went to the pub after us kids had all gone to sleep.

I was back here in 1979 after a day at the Cheltenham Festival. I remember having a couple of very enjoyable pints and chatting to some people at the bar. On 9 August 1993 (when the photo I uploaded in 2020 was taken) I stopped here while on a camping holiday in the Cotswolds with my partner and our two daughters. I can't remember going to the pub - it's possible that it was closed mid-afternoon, as pubs generally were at that time.

I called in here again during a recent trip to the Cotswolds, during which I stayed at a camp site not far from here. It's a Donnington pub, with the variability in the quality of the beers that I became accustomed to during my holiday. Their BB was better here than at other pubs visited (NBSS 3.5) and I was hoping to have the SBA the next day, but it had gone off. So I went for the Gold, which was a bit green (NBSS 2.5). Nevertheless I quite like this pub, as much for its connections going back over 60 years in my memory, so I'd probably come back if I find myself in the area again.

Ford is an out-of the way settlement deep in the Cotswolds; the Plough suits it perfectly. It's a sixteenth-century building retaining much of the original layout. The must see features are the small bar area as you enter and the stone-walled snug to the right, for which it is isted in the Camra inventory. The rooms to the left have been modernised and are given over to eating. It's the local for Jonjo O'Neil's yard across the road, and there's naturally a strong racing following reflected in the pictures on the walls and accomodation packages for the Festival.

It's a Donnington pub - the bitter was so-so; everyone else, there to watch the Six Nations, was on lager. But maybe I caught it a bad day.

This pub is well worth seeking out - and is open all day - with the usual caveat for pubs round here that weekend lunchtimes are best avoided if the weather precludes sitting out in the pleasant garden.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Plough Inn

The Plough Inn is a nice looking pub that is on a sharpish bend on a busy road.
The main entrance to this pub is at the rear and once inside there is a warren of rooms there is a small bar facing this area is more like a snug, we went in the bar which was to the right this had a stone floor and was fairly small, there were rooms to the left which were larger and some were up a few steps these rooms were very busy with people dining.
This pub is a Donnington tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Donnington SBA and this was a really nice drink the other beer was Donnington BB.
This pub had an olde worlde feel to it and had rooms to suit most peoples taste and i quite enjoyed having a drink in here.
